Black Nikkormat: FT3 serial-number prefiximage by This camera, released as the Nikomat FT3 in Japan, was released as the Nikkormat FT3 elsewhere.Manufactured from 1977 to 1979, this was the first Nikomat camera to use AI lenses; thanks to wider and newer lens availability, this makes it a more attractive choice today than its predecessors. It is still possible to use non-AI lenses through use of the stop-down button to close aperture manually.Six years after the introduction of the professional F, the introduction of the in 1965 allowed to attract many more customers. The FT3 was launched in 1977. The camera is rugged (as are the other mechanical-shutter Nikomat models) and is basically identical to its predecessor, the FT2, except for the automatic maximum aperture indexing (AI) system for lens-body meter coupling. Due to the redirection of SLR user requirements towards more compact cameras (such as the and ), the Nikkormat FT3 barely lasted for two years, until 1979, to be replaced by the FM.FeaturesMetering: TTL, turned on when the film advance lever is flipped out 20 degrees.

He bought it brand new back in 1965 and still runs good as new.A year ago it went in for its first ever service and apart from some minor repairs, the only prob with it is the light meter is out by a stop.Im hoping to get a wide and fast lens so I can shoot better in low light but since moving over to digital most things I buy now are for my D40. One day I'll have enough money to spare get like a 28/30mm f.14 lensages agosays:Just picked up an FT2 off ebay. Looks to be in great shape. Popped in a battery and the meter is responsive. Shutter speeds sound OK - we'll have to see! 1st roll in it right now.Included in the deal was a Hanimex 50mm f/2.8 which looks God-awful ugly and from what I read is regarded as less than good.
I'll be looking for some nicer NAI Nikkors now to go with it. It's a beautiful piece of machinery and I look forward to shooting film once again.

I was going to open it up to look inside and check the foam seals and such, but it came with a roll of 100 ISO film in it, so today I put the 28mm/f3.5 non-AI on it and sought every excuse to shoot. I'd been toying with the idea of adding something like an FE2 to my now very crowded dry box, but as soon as I got the Nikkormat in my hands it just felt so right and I am eager to get the first of many rolls developed. Not only is the camera body beautiful and solid, but the lenses of that era - like the 50mm/f1.4 and F2 - are gorgeous. My poor D90 might be pining for more attention from now on.116 months agosays:Not quite one day, lol. I agree with previous posters that this camera just feels and looks right. I have a jig to verify shutters and the Nikkormat is dead on timing. This one seems to be from 1968 based on serial numbers I've seen for other known dated cameras. The longest I owned one was 10 years, which was my father's old chrome Nikomat FTn. Got it in 1987, when he decided to sorta retire from photography, then used (and abused) it until 1997. Sold it and a chrome FT2 to pay for a black FM that I got off eBay. Wasn't but 6 months, before another FTn joined our bag. That one proved to be somewhat unreliable, due to a shutter that wasn't firing properly.
Stored it away until 2004, then decided to overhaul it and use it as a backup for an F3P that I'd just purchased. Also had picked up another chrome FTn (very late model) with the K focusing screen. That was around the time that the 'mats began getting cheap for good user cameras.
Since then, I've probably owned close to 20 or 25 Nikkormat/Nikomat bodies. Have owned all models, except for the FS and the EL2. Currently, have four. A black FTn, black FT2 (that I got for the cost of shipping, including manual and 50f2 Nikkor-H), chrome FT2, and a chrome FT3. The FTn was most expensive, at $30, including shipping. The chrome bodies were around $21ish with shipping, and the black FT2 came to $16, with $15.30 being the shipping.-J116 months agosays:Got my first Nikkormat FTN about a month ago, black and a bit bashed but had it CLA'd and took it out for the first time loaded up with Tri X the other day in London.

Bought it with Micro-Nikkor 55mm f3.5 (I am an invertebrate zoologist) and used through the early 80s for nature and family pictures.
I passed it to my son to learn B&W, and he kept for years. Then it came back to me, and has rested for 15-20 years.Having retired recently, I am reviving my interest in SLR photography. So, I bought a new Nikon D90 and some new lenses two weeks ago to be modern - nice but not the same as my old Nikkormat. I can't let it go, so I checked it out, and remembered how much I love that camera. All is well, and a light seal kit has been ordered. In fact, surfing about Nikkormat stuff, I found a really good deal on a chrome FTN with three Nikkor lenses (50 mm 1.4, 24 mm 2.8, and 135 mm 2.8) and bought the lot with accessories as back up and supplement to my own old gear. By the way, the 675 hearing aid battery fix for FTN seems to work just fine once your figure out how the +/- contacts are arranged.

Some months ago, the shutter of the Contax died and I got an unused Nikon F801s from my dad. Nice camera, but difficult to focus manually with the standard focusing screen.
And my 55mm f3.5 micro doesn't fit on it.
